Edamame and Nori Onigiri

Edamame Bean and Nori Onigiri

Onigiri means "rice ball" in Japanese. This dish is similar to a sandwich in that the filling possibilities are endless. It's time to let your creativity run wild! You can add the filling inside the onigiri or simply mix it with the rice before forming the small triangles. Very popular in Japan, they can be enjoyed as both a snack and a main course.
- 2 cups of Japanese rice
- 2 cups of water
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 3 tbsp salt
- 1 cup edamame beans
- 4 tbsp Nori flakesAn Ocean of Flavors
- 1 sheet of dried nori
-
Rinse the rice well until the water runs clear.
Add the rice and water to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and let stand for another 10 minutes with the lid on.
Add the rice vinegar and let cool to room temperature.
When the rice is comfortable to handle, add the salt, edamame beans, and nori flakes.
Before making the onigiri, we recommend having a bowl of water nearby to moisten your hands and prevent the rice from sticking. Shape the rice mixture into small triangles and wrap with a piece of nori.
Onigiri can be eaten as is, but it is possible to serve them with soy sauce or spicy mayonnaise!
