The Gaspé company Un Océan de saveurs is a finalist in the “Producer of the Year” category of the Lauriers de la gastronomie québécoise, a category presented by the Union des producteurs agricoles.

Mr. Nicolas freedives in the waters of the St. Lawrence River year-round to harvest the algae found there, then process it and bring it to your plates. Remember that Un Océan de saveurs is the first certified organic Quebec seaweed producer.

Harvesting and processing seaweed

Based in Gaspésie, it specializes in the harvesting, processing and education of this marine superfood, increasingly known and appreciated by restaurateurs and lovers of ultra-local flavors. The Lauriers showcase Quebec gastronomy by crowning what the industry considers its best performers. The awards recognize the work of chefs, artisans, and entrepreneurs from across Quebec. The finalists are determined 50% by votes from the brigade, which brings together 5,000 industry professionals, and 50% by votes from the jury.

Until April 12 to vote

Industry professionals can vote for their favorite candidates in each of the 17 categories until April 12. The winners will be announced at the Lauriers Gala on May 24, an awards ceremony presented by and for the industry. Antoine Nicolas is proud to share this honor with exceptional and high-quality producers. He is also delighted to see many valuable partners among the nominees. "I am happy to be part of this community of passionate, close-knit people who promote our local values, products, and flavors. They all work with such dedication," says the CEO of Un Océan de saveurs. The 2021 edition of the Lauriers de la gastronomie québécoise will name 17 laureates who will become ambassadors for the industry's revival. "I would be more than honored to be one of these ambassadors," adds Antoine Nicolas. Brigade members, to register and vote, visit: https://lauriers.ca/votes-finals-2021/
